Position Summary
The Executive Director is the senior day-to-day leader of NO QUIT Tennis Academy. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role translates organizational vision into strategy, operating plans, measurable results, and a strong culture. The Executive Director oversees academy operations, financial performance, people leadership, program quality, partnerships, and sustainable growth while ensuring that student-athlete development remains central to every decision.
This position sits between the CEO and Academy Directors. The CEO retains responsibility for enterprise-level vision, board leadership, and major organizational relationships. The Executive Director leads execution across the Academy, while the Academy Director owns daily tennis programming, curriculum delivery, and on-court coaching quality.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Lead, support, and hold accountable the Academy Director, Academy Co-Directors, coaching staff, operations staff, and contractors.
Establish clear goals, roles, decision rights, and performance expectations.
Build a collaborative, mission-aligned culture focused on continuous improvement.
Recruit, develop, evaluate, retain, and, when necessary, manage transitions of staff and contractors.
Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic & Organizational Leadership
Translate the CEO’s and Board’s vision into annual priorities, operating plans, budgets, and performance goals.
Provide day-to-day and strategic leadership for the Academy.
Recommend long-range goals, policies, partnerships, and growth initiatives to the CEO.
Monitor organizational performance and adjust priorities, resources, and processes as needed.
Model a disciplined, hands-on leadership style that balances long-term vision with short-term execution.
Program & Performance Oversight
Ensure tennis programming reflects NO QUIT’s whole-human approach to physical, social, emotional, and mental development.
Partner with the Academy Director to set program standards and review curriculum, lesson planning, athlete development pathways, and coaching quality.
Oversee the Academy’s recreational, high-performance junior, tournament, travel, collegiate-preparation, and community programs.
Establish measurable outcomes for participation, retention, athlete development, college placement, family satisfaction, and program impact.
Maintain strong knowledge of junior tennis, tournament schedules, college recruiting, and the pathway from developmental to elite play.
People & Culture
Coach and support senior academy leaders while maintaining clear accountability for results.
Create systems for staff onboarding, training, evaluation, professional development, and succession planning.
Promote constructive feedback, healthy communication, collaboration, and a growth mindset.
Ensure coaches and staff consistently model organizational values in their work with student-athletes and families.
Develop staffing plans that support program quality, safety, financial sustainability, and growth.
Financial & Operational Management
Develop and manage the Academy’s annual operating budget in partnership with the CEO and finance team.
Monitor revenue, expenses, cash flow, staffing costs, program margins, and capital needs.
Ensure responsible financial controls, accurate reporting, and appropriate use of organizational resources.
Oversee facilities, equipment, scheduling, travel, events, technology, registration systems, and administrative processes.
Use data and technology to improve communication, participant experience, operational efficiency, and decision-making.
Growth, Fundraising & Partnerships
Grow participation, program impact, earned revenue, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships.
Support fundraising strategy, donor cultivation, grant opportunities, and stewardship in partnership with the CEO and development team.
Build productive relationships with tennis organizations, schools, colleges, community partners, sponsors, vendors, and professional tennis leaders.
Identify opportunities to strengthen member and family benefits, expand access, and increase the Academy’s visibility.
Represent NO QUIT Tennis Academy at community, industry, fundraising, and networking events.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
Provide the CEO and Board with clear, timely updates on performance, finances, opportunities, and risks.
Support board planning, reporting, policy development, and implementation as requested by the CEO.
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, SafePlay requirements, applicable tennis-association rules, and youth-safety standards.
Maintain appropriate risk-management practices for coaching, travel, events, facilities, personnel, and contractors.
Ensure accurate records and reporting related to programs, finances, staffing, athlete participation, and outcomes.
Stakeholder & Community Relations
Serve as a senior point of contact for players, parents, coaches, schools, officials, tournament directors, donors, sponsors, vendors, and community partners.
Build trust through clear, consistent, and responsive communication.
Address complex concerns professionally and ensure timely resolution.
Promote the Academy’s mission, programs, achievements, and impact through presentations, reports, events, and public communications.
Required Skills & Abilities
Passion for youth development and thorough knowledge of tennis.
Demonstrated success leading a high-performance tennis academy, sports organization, nonprofit, or comparable mission-driven organization.
Strong strategic planning, operational leadership, and execution skills.
Experience managing senior staff, coaches, contractors, and cross-functional teams.
Working knowledge of nonprofit governance and experience supporting or reporting to a board.
Strong financial skills, including budgeting, forecasting, revenue planning, and cash-flow management.
Ability to grow participation, partnerships, fundraising, and earned revenue.
Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Sound judgment, emotional intelligence, integrity, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Ability to attract, motivate, develop, and retain high-performing talent.
Extensive knowledge of junior tennis and the college pathway, including training schedules, tournaments, recruiting, and athlete development.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, sports management, education, or a related field preferred; equivalent leadership experience may be considered.
Seven or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience in sports, youth development, education, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
Experience leading or operating a high-performance tennis program strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience developing elite junior players or overseeing coaches who do so.
Experience with nonprofit boards, fundraising, partnerships, and organizational growth preferred.
USPTA, PTR, USTA Coaching, or equivalent certification preferred.
Current SafePlay certification required.
Physical & Schedule Requirements
Ability to move throughout tennis courts, athletic grounds, offices, and event facilities.
Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Regular presence at academy programming, tournaments, community events, and partner meetings.
Availability for occasional early mornings, evenings, weekends, travel, and extended workdays.
Role Expectations
The Executive Director is expected to operate as both a strategic leader and an engaged operator. Success requires consistent follow-through, thoughtful delegation, strong relationships, financial discipline, and a willingness to step in where needed without displacing the Academy Director’s ownership of daily tennis programming.
